The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday ordered the closure of schools due to increasing threat of deadly smog across the province, especially in capital Lahore. According to the details, the top court in the province has ordered the administration to issue a notification for the three-day weekly holidays for educational institutions in the smog-hit Lahore.
The development comes as the Lahore High Court (LHC) heard a petition filed by a citizen to seek remedy for the smog issue in the province, especially in the province’s capital of Lahore. Furthermore, the court expressed displeasure over the provincial government’s ability to address the smog issue in the province.
LHC has directed the administration to take down industries that are omitting pollution with a draft for legislation in this regard to be forwarded to the court at the earliest. The court has ordered to demolish of brick-kilns contamination the atmosphere and impound vehicles creating pollution in the environment.
“The brick-kilns that are polluting the environment should be issued a notice first, and then they should be demolished,” the court ordered, adding that criminal cases should also be filed against the brick-kilns for causing serious pollution.
For now, the Government of Punjab might issue the notification as per directives of LHC for the closure of schools in the province, especially in Lahore.
