Offices in Lahore to Remain Closed For 3 Days a Week

The Government of Punjab has directed all offices in Lahore to remain closed for three days a week due to crippling level of smog in the provincial capital. In the meantime, the provincial government has implemented a work from home (WFH) policy for the staff of private offices in Lahore.

In a notification issued by Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Punjab, the deteriorating Air Quality Index (AQI) in Lahore is likely to cause breathing problems, including respiratory tract diseases and heart diseases.

The notification added that the Provincial Cabinet of Punjab has declared smog as a calamity under section 3 of “The Punjab National Calamities (Prevention and Relief) Act 1958” and instructed to take all possible measures to control the situation.

It said that there are sufficient grounds to proceed under section 4 (2) (h) of “The Punjab National Calamities (Prevention and Relief) Act 1958” as an immediate step to prevent and recover from the calamity to ensure public safety and conserve lives.

Therefore, it announced that all offices in Lahore shall remain closed for three days a week (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) with a work from home (WFH) policy in place to combat the smog situation in the provincial capital.

“All private offices being operated by companies, private sector entities and other individuals, within the territorial limits of Lahore Metropolitan Corporation, shall remain closed every Friday, and Saturday, with effect from 07.12.2022 until 15.1.2023.” said the notification.

However, it added that staff of these offices may continue to work from home during the said time period.

In related news, the Government of Punjab has closed educational institutions for three days a week as well in Lahore in order to combat the smog situation in the city.
