The Cyber Crime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has initiated a probe into loan-lending mobile applications that are allegedly blackmailing the cell phone users into returning the loans by using their personal data.
There are several mobile applications like Barwaqt, PK Loan, Easy Loan, and Fast Loan that have come under the radar of the FIA for allegedly blackmailing users into returning loans with up to 40% mark-up by threatening to leak their personal information and data.
According to the report, these loan apps usually contact debtors and offer them easy loans to settle their financial troubles and end up threatening them to payback the amount with a high mark-up. The report added that these apps mostly target women compared to men and sometimes threaten to leak their personal photos if they refuse to payback the amount with a high interest rate.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has begun a probe into these loan-lending apps after receiving several complaints from women that have fallen victim to their scams.
