The new Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Najam Sethi, has said that Mohammad Amir may return to international cricket if they wants. According to the details, the PCB chairman told Arab News that he will not stop Mohammad Amir if the former cricket wants to make a comeback to international cricket.
He said that he support Amir’s return to the international cricket as he has admitted his guilt. “A player who has admitted his guilt, helped the ICC to stop match-fixing and corruption, and then paid a five-year penalty for being outside of cricket deserves to come back,” he told Arab News.
Mohammad Amir has started trending on social media after this statement by the new PCB chairman and the news has received mixed reviews by cricket fans with some supporting the decision, while others are straight-up against it.
“Mohammad Amir thinks he is not dealt fairly by the previous regime of PCB, including selection committee and chairman Ramiz Raja,” the PCB chairman said and added that Amir only made himself unavailable for selection due to differences with the previous PCB regime and administration.
“It was an offense, absolutely, but I think he has redeemed himself.” Sethi told Arab News. “As you know, Ramiz Raja’s view has been that anyone who has ever been convicted or tainted should never be allowed to come back again.” he added, while clarifying that he does not hold the same view.
He said that he thinks if someone has paid the penalty and has reformed should be allowed come back. “Therefore, if Amir wants to come back, I will not stop him.” he said. “I will make him eligible and then it’s up to the selectors to select him if he’s up to par,”
