The Punjab School Education Department (SED) has launched the 1234 Helpline for the help and guidance of out-of-school children, especially those working at business establishments or at home as domestic workers.
The 1234 Helpline would provide a one-stop solution for children not studying in any school because of their family’s financial or personal circumstances as all aspects from the child’s admission tot he start of classes will be looked after by the SED.
Furthermore, there is no age limit and working students and parents of such children would be notified if required. Additionally, the working children would be able to join special early morning classes so they could have enough time to proceed to their workplaces after their lessons.
Dr. Ehtesham Anwar, Secretary of the School Education Department, told Daily Times that such a child will also be provided with a bag, books, stationary, a uniform, and shoes at no cost so parents are not burdened with the school expenses.
He added that people are encouraged to call the 1234 Helpline and provide details of aspiring children and the secretary was hopeful that this initiative would go a long way and help tackle the problem of out-of-school children in Pakistan.
