7.2 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Tajikistan

An earthquake of 7.2 magnitude jolted Tajikistan on Thursday morning and it strongly felt in some parts of China’s western Xinjiang region, including Kashgar and Artux.

According to the details, the earthquake was recorded just 82 kilometers from the nearest border with China at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles), the China Earthquake Networks Center stated.

However, there have been no reports of any casualties and power supply and other facilities remains operational as normal.

However, the passenger trains running on the Aksu and Kashgar section on the Southern Xinjiang railway were stopped from operating for local authorities to inspect bridges, tunnels, and signal equipment.

It is pertinent to mention that a 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Turkiye and Syria earlier this month and it has claimed the lives of over 47,000 people in both countries, while thousands of others have been injured.

The earthquake also damaged hundreds of buildings, which has left many people homeless.
