Rain & Snowfall Predicted in Different Parts of Pakistan

In the latest weather update, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain-wind / thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills in upper and central parts of Pakistan this week from Tuesday to Thursday.

According to the weather update, the Met Office has informed that a westerly wave is likely to enter western parts of the country on 28th (evening / night), and likely to grip upper and central parts on 1^st March and may persist over northern areas till 2^nd March.

The PMD added that Rain-wind/thunderstorm (snowfall over the hills) with few moderate to isolated heavy falls are expected in Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Haripur and Abbottabad from 28^th February (evening/night) to 2^nd March.

Light to moderate rain-wind/thunderstorm (isolated heavy fall & hailstorm) is expected in Islamabad, Pothohar region, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Khushab, Mianwali, Sargodha, Multan, DG khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Bahawalpur, Karak, Peshawar, Kohat, Charsada, Nowshera, Swabi, Buner, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Quetta, Khuzdar, Nasirabad, Dera Bugti, Zhob, Barkhan, Harnai, Qila Saifullah, Qillah Abdullah, Chamman and Pishin from 28^th February (evening/night) to 1^st March.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) added that strong winds and hailstorm may cause damage to lose infrastructure and standing crops, especially in Barani areas. However, the rain will be beneficial for the standing crops particularly in Barani areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

There is possibility of landslides in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, and Galliyat during the forecast period. Meanwhile, the day temperature is likely to drop 5 to 7°C during the spell.

The PMD has advised tourists to remain cautious during the spell as well as advised concerned authorities to remain alert to avoid any untoward incident during the forecast period.
