Pakistan will hopefully see a reduction in prices of mobile phones after reduction in regulatory duty on these devices after the Government of Pakistan has abolished regulatory duties and Additional Custom Duties (ACDs) on import of over 600 luxury and non-essential items.
According to the details, the regulatory duty (RD) on mobile phones has been halved across all categories after expiration of the Statutory Regulatory Orders (SROs), which means that we can expect a significant reduction in prices for smartphones in Pakistan.
The regulatory on the cheapest mobile phone costing up to $30 has been reduced to just Rs. 300 per set, while the RD on mobile phones costing up to $100 has been set at Rs. 3,000 per set and RD on mobile phones worth up to $200 is now Rs. 7,500.
Similarly, the regulatory duty (RD) on mobile phones with value of $201 to $350 is now Rs. 11,000 and phones costing above $350 and up to $500 will be charged RD of Rs. 15,000. Lastly, the regulatory duty on mobile phones costing above $500 will be charged at Rs. 22,000 with an additional 25% sales tax.
