Shireen Mazari, a senior member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has announced that she is leaving politics.
In a statement released from prison, Shireen Mazari announced her departure from PTI, citing health problems and problems faced by her daughter, Imaan Mazari, due to repeated arrests.
“I condemn the violence on May 9 and 10.” Mazari said. “I also gave an undertaking to the Islamabad High Court in this regard.” she added.
“I have always condemned the violence on state symbols like GHQ, Parliament, and Supreme Court,” she further stated.
Shireen Mazari said that her children, mother, and health are now top priority, especially after her husband passed away five months ago.
The politician was arrested on May 12 under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (3MPO) and granted bail on May 14 before being re-arrested as she was leaving Adiala Jail.
Last week, she received bail again but was re-arrested from her residence in Islamabad.
