The Federal Government on Thursday announced an extension of holidays for Eid ul Azha 2023 in order to account for the Day of Arafah, which takes place on June 28 (Wednesday).
According to the details, the Government has announced three holidays for Eid ul Azha from 28th to 30th June 2023 (Wednesday to Friday) for offices observing five working days a week, while offices with six working days a week will observe Eid ul Adha holidays from 28th June 2023 to 1st July 2023.
The notification issued by the Prime Minister’s Office stated, “The Prime Minister is pleased to approve the public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha as follows:
- 28th, 29th & 30th June 2023 (Wednesday, Thursday & Friday) for the offices observing five days working in a week; and,
- 28th June to 1st July 2023 (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday) for the offices observing 6 days working in a week.”

However, the people will be able to enjoy a total of five holidays for Eid ul Adha if you account for the weekend.
Earlier, the Government of Pakistan had approved just two holidays for offices working five days a week and three holidays for offices with a six day work week. The decision was announced a day after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (RHC) under chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad sighted the crescent for the month of Zil Hajj.
Meanwhile, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced bank holidays for Eid ul Azha as well.
