Meta-owned WhatsApp is apparently working on a new feature that will enable users to send high-quality videos on the platform. At the moment, WhatsApp compresses all video files to make them smaller, which lowers the video resolution and compromises the quality.
However, WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is now rolling out a new feature that solves the problem by enabling users to send high-quality videos to contacts. The development comes shortly after the encrypted messenger released the feature to share HD photos for iOS users.
The feature is available on the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS version 23.13.0.76 and the new feature preserves video dimensions. However, light compression is still applied to the video in order to save data and space.
“As happens with the high-quality photo feature, the default option is always “Standard quality” for any video, and you still need to select the high-quality option every time you want to share a new video with improved quality.” the WhatsApp tracker noted.
Moreover, when a user sends a video using the high-quality option, it will be marked as a high-quality video in the conversation, which is similar to HD photos, and a new tag is automatically added to the message bubble.
However, the high-quality video option for the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS still needs some improvements as the text or menu still refers to images. It is yet to be confirmed when WhatsApp plans to release the high-quality video feature for everyone on the platform.
