Instagram owner Meta is all set to launch a Twitter-like app called Threads on Thursday, according to an App Store listing for the new app showing a version ready for the Apple’s iPhone.
According to the details, Meta will launch Threads on Thursday and will allow users to retain their followers from Instagram as well as keep the same user name on the new micro-blogging platform.
Meanwhile, several tech analysts have dubbed Instagram’s Threads app as a potential Twitter-killer. The launch of the new micro-blogging platform comes at a time when Twitter has announced a slate of new restrictions on the app, including a limit to the number of Tweets a user could view each day.
Instagram, which has millions of registered users, has the potential to actually dethrone Twitter.
Furthermore, Meta has added a launch date teaser to the Instagram app when you type “Threads” into the search box (or a number of other keywords), which shows a spinning ticket alongside your Instagram username and a local launch date.

The spinning ticket also includes a QR code that points to Threads.net, which seems to the new web portal for the Twitter-like micro-blogging platform. Here you’ll see a timer as well, which is due to end on 10 AM ET on the 6th of July.
