In a tragic incident, a Portuguese tourist named Nuno Miguel Vilao Castanheria, aged 28, died in a road accident near Dalbandin Town of Chagai District on Thursday.
According to the details, Nuno Miguel Vilao Castanheria had crossed into Pakistan from Iran on Wednesday evening on his motorbike and he was on his way to Quetta with two other German tourists, Tony Pankraz and Nikolas Lang, who were also traveling on their motorbikes.
However, the Portuguese tourist’s bike collided with a pickup truck while they were being escorted by the Levies personnel and he lost his life on the spot, as confirmed by Chagai Deputy Commissioner Hasan Jan Baloch.
The Foreign Office in Islamabad was informed about the accident and the body was moved to Quetta for onward dispatching to Islamabad so that it could be handed over to the Portuguese embassy.
According to Nuno Miguel Vilao Castanheria’s website, he was on a mission to travel to over 50 countries on his motorbike in the next two years.
He started this mission, which he called “Mission Unplug” on May 21 from his native country of Portugal and travelled through Europe and the Middle East, reaching Iran in July. He crossed into Pakistan on Wednesday and had plans to travel to the northern areas and cross into India from the Wagah Border.
