The Sindh caretaker Government has announced a holiday on 7 September 2023 (Thursday) on account of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam-e-Hussain (RA). The Sindh Education Department has stated that all public and private schools and colleges across the province will remain closed on September 7.
Furthermore, the local authorities have beefed up security arrangements in the province to avoid any untoward incident during the mourning processions and Majalis that will be held in connection to the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
It is pertinent to mention that Chehlum is observed 40 days after the Day of Ashura (10th Muharram) and commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his 72 companions by Yazidi forces in the Battle of Karbala in 61 A.H.
In view of the mourning processions, the caretaker Sindh Government has announced a holiday on 7 September 2023 (Thursday) and all schools and colleges will remain closed as processions will be held across the province.
It is pertinent to mention that Punjab has already announced a holiday on 7 September 2023 on account of the Urs of Data Gunj Bakhsh Syed Ali Hajweri (RA), which happens to coincide with Chehlum.
