Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, the virtual semi-final, ended with Sri Lanka knocking Pakistan out of the Asia Cup 2023 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Thursday.
The final of the Asia Cup 2023 will now be played between Sri Lanka and India on Sunday, September 17 in Colombo.
Iftikhar Ahmed delivered his side not just with the bat but also with the ball and took three important wickets.
Batting first, Pakistan was able to post 252 runs on the scoreboard with the help of Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed.
Rizwan scored an unbeaten 86 off 73 balls, while Iftikhar managed 47 runs off 40 balls. Abdullah Shafique, who opened the game, was able to add 52 runs to the scoreboard out of 69 balls.
Babar Azam gave a disappointing performance as the only scored 29 runs off 35 balls.
Earlier, Pakistan had won the toss and elected to bat first, however, the match was reduced to 45 overs due to rain.
Sri Lanka was able to hold their own and reach the target despite the match looking to be in favor of the away side during the last over of the game. Pakistan just had to defend six runs in the last two balls.
However, Asalanka got an outside edge on the second last ball of the match and the ball touched the boundary.
Sri Lanka needed two off one ball when Zaman Khan bowled a slower length ball, but the left-handed batter held his nerve and played a simple shot towards the deep square leg fence and ran two across the pitch, guiding his side to victory and paving the way to the final of the Asia Cup 2023.
