Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Dr Umar Saif, said that talks will be held with PayPal and Stripe in a week’s time regarding bringing services to Pakistan.
Talking to media, the IT minister said that Government intends to convince PayPal to provide one-way service in Pakistan through a third-party, which is a similar to Egypt. The IT minister also highlighted that talks with Stripe, another payment processing platform, are also underway to bring their services to Pakistan.
Negotiations with Stripe are underway through the Pakistani embassy in Singapore and should Stripe start its services in the country, it will be very beneficial for the e-commerce industry and content creators, providing them with new monetization avenues.
He said that it was important to bring PayPal and Stripe to Pakistan to facilitate the freelancers and e-commerce companies in the country. The minister said that talks with both companies will conclude in two months time and expressed hope that outcome will be positive since there is a strong customer base.
