The Government announced on Monday that it plans to expel over 1 million illegal immigrants residing in Pakistan, including Afghan nationals.
According to the details, the government plans to evict illegal residents in the first phase along with those who do not renew their visas. In the second and third phases, the Pakistan Government plans to deport those living here with Afghan citizenship and possessing proof of residence cards.
The development comes after the Ministry of Interior prepared a plan in consultation with all stakeholders and the Afghan Government. Furthermore, the ministry has issued directives to the concerned to compile a list of Afghans living in Pakistan without permits and prepare a transportation plan to bring them to the Afghan border.
According to reports, the Government plans to announce a one-month deadline for all illegal immigrants to leave the country. After the deadline, a major crackdown will be launched across the country by law-enforcement agencies to identify and deport such illegal immigrants, the vast majority of whom are Afghan citizens.
Authorities have already arrested many illegal Afghan immigrants dealing in illegal dollar trade at the cost of the country’s economy. Furthermore, some reports state that a large number of other illegal immigrants are also involved in illegal dollar trade and businesses across the country.
The surge is street crime in also linked to influx of illegal Afghan citizens, the reports added.
