Pakistan sports presenter Zainab Abbas has left India during the ICC World Cup 2023 after an Indian lawyer filed a cybercrime complaint against her over some old and alleged “anti-Hindu” Tweets.
Zainab Abbas, who seemed to be super excited for the ICC World Cup 2023, has reportedly relocated to Dubai following the incident. However, there are rumors about the sports presenter being deported by the Indian Government.
It is pertinent to mention that India is yet to grant visas to Pakistani fans and journalists despite many reminders by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council (ICC) fails to take notice of the matter.
Indian Lawyer Vineet Jindal formally lodged a complaint against Zainab Abbas highlighting a series of older Tweets on the social media platform “X”, formerly known as Twitter. The lawyer accused to ICC presenter of issuing “anti-Hindu” and “anti-India” statements.
While, it has not been confirmed yet whether these Tweets were made by Zainab or not, the presenter has relocated to Dubai citing personal reasons. Meanwhile, the ICC World Cup 2023 has raised concerns regarding freedom of press and lack of Indian hospitality towards media personnel hailing from Pakistan.
Prior to departing for India, Zainab Abbas seemed very excited and keen to explore Indian culture. Taking to Twitter, the presenter wrote, “There was always intrigue on what lies on the other side, more cultural similarities than differences, rivals on the field but camaraderie off the field, the same language & love for art & a country with a billion people, here to represent, to create content & bring in expertise from the best in the business. Humbled to be presenting in India at the Cricket WC2023 for the @ICC again, a journey away from home of 6 weeks starts now.”
