The shortage of lamination paper has caused delays in the issuance of Pakistani passports for applicants across the country.
According to the details, Pakistan’s passport offices are receiving up to 25,000 applications on average for renewal or issuance of passports on a daily basis; however, the shortage of lamination paper in the country has caused a backlog of 500,000.
A spokesperson of the interior ministry has stated that Pakistan has placed an order for lamination paper and it will arrive in a week.
It means anyone who needs a passport urgently will need to wait a few more weeks as it will take some time for the huge backlog to clear up.
This is bad news for people who need to travel for purposes such as Umrah, medical treatment or education.
The matter is made worse because despite the non-availability of lamination paper, new applications are still being received by passport offices, which is adding to the already huge backlog of orders.
