Pakistani sports presenter, Zainab Abbas, has finally spoken out after she left India during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 tournament.
According to the details, the International Cricket Council (ICC) cited ‘personal reasons’ as the basis of her departure, but there were rumors that Zainab Abbas was deported by the Indian Government.
However, there were also reports stating that Zainab Abbas left after an Indian lawyer registered a cybercrime case against the presenter for ‘anti-India’ and ‘anti-Hindu’ tweets.
Zainab Abbas has finally disclosed her reason for leaving India on October 9 amid the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 tournament.
“I have always felt extremely fortunate and grateful for the opportunities to travel and present the sport I love – this one would have been extra special.” the presenter wrote, adding that her daily interactions with everyone were kind and cheerful.
She added, “I was neither asked to leave nor I was deported.”
Abbas mentioned that she was not keen to leave, but felt intimated and scared by the reaction on social media. “And even though there was no immediate threat to my safety, my family, and friends from both sides of the border were concerned. I needed some space and time to reflect on what had transpired.” she stated.
I understand and deeply regret the hurt caused by the posts that were circulated. I wish to make clear that they do not represent my values or who I am as a person today,” the journalist said.
She apologized to every saying, “There is no excuse or space for such language, and I sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended.”
