Afghanistan defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in the 22nd match of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday.
Ibrahim Zadran (87) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65) had a strong start, while Rahmat Shah with undefeated 77 runs and Hashmatullah Shahidi with 48 runs guided the team to victory.
Earlier, Pakistan set a target of 283 to chase after opting to bat first; however, the green shirts had an inconsistent performance during the first innings.
Pakistan lost an early wicket when Imam ul Haq was dismissed for 17 runs. However, Abdullah Shafique carried out and managed to score 58 runs at the expense of 75 balls.
Babar Azam was able to score 74 runs off 92 balls, while Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed for just 8 runs.
Saud Shakeel (25), Shadab Khan (40) and Iftikhar Ahmed (40) added much needed to runs to the score total in order for Pakistan to set a reasonable target for Afghanistan.
