The provincial government of Punjab has implemented a ban on the entry of vehicles lacking fitness certificates and route permits on motorways and highways.
In the presence of Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the government formalized this measure by signing an agreement with the National Highways and Motorway Police to enforce the ban.
The agreement stipulates mandatory information sharing between the Punjab Transport Department and the Motorway Police concerning vehicle fitness and route permits. To oversee this exchange and ensure rule enforcement, focal persons will be designated by both departments.
This initiative is part of the provincial government’s broader strategy to combat smog in Punjab. During the ceremony, CM Mohsin Naqvi commended the environmentally friendly nature of the initiative. In a noteworthy announcement regarding unregistered Chingchi rickshaws, he granted a one-month grace period for free vehicle registration, emphasizing that unregistered rickshaws would not be permitted on the roads thereafter.
Furthermore, the caretaker CM revealed plans for the establishment of a trauma center on the Lahore-Islamabad M2 Motorway, with the backing of the National Highway Authority.
