No Pakistani Included in ICC’s World Cup 2023 Team of the Tournament

On Monday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) unveiled the Team of the Tournament for the 2023 World Cup, notably absent of any players from the Pakistan team.

Despite entering the tournament as the top-ranked side, Pakistan faced an early exit in the group stage, losing five out of nine matches. The ICC’s lineup showcased players from the victorious Australian team, claiming their sixth World Cup title, as well as participants from the runner-up India, semi-finalists South Africa and New Zealand, and Sri Lanka.

The selection panel comprised Ian Bishop, Kass Naidoo, Shane Watson (Commentators), Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager, Cricket), and Sunil Vaidya (Journalist, Ahmedabad Mirror).

Australia secured their historic sixth 50-overs World Cup title the day before, with opener Travis Head’s impressive century leading them to a six-wicket victory against India. Despite India posting a below-par 240 in 50 overs, Australia, after a top-order wobble, comfortably chased down the target with seven overs to spare at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
