A 20-year-old man found himself in police custody and his vehicle impounded following reckless behavior that involved creating excessive noise and performing stunts in front of a police patrol in a southern area of Ras Al Khaimah.
This incident, captured in a viral video, drew immediate concern from Colonel Dr Mohamed Al-Bahar, Director of the Traffic and Patrol Department of Ras Al-Khaimah Police, who emphasized the blatant disregard for law enforcement officers and traffic rules demonstrated in the video circulating on social media.
Responding swiftly, the traffic department, under the directives of General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al-Naeimi, the Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al-Khaimah Police, assembled a search and investigation team comprising members from the Traffic Administration, Patrol, and the Management of Comprehensive Police Stations. This dedicated team successfully located the vehicle and identified the driver, resulting in the seizure of the vehicle.
The arrested driver is currently undergoing legal procedures, with preparations underway for his transfer to the Prosecutor General. Colonel Al-Bahar underscored the uncompromising stance of Ras Al Khaimah Police against those who violate regulations and laws, particularly individuals who show disrespect towards police officers entrusted with safeguarding the security and well-being of the community.
Emphasizing the necessity of firm action, Colonel Al-Bahar stressed the commitment to imposing severe punishments and penalties on individuals challenging the authority of police officers, violating state laws, and jeopardizing the safety of others.
Under UAE federal traffic law, reckless driving incurs a fine of Dh2,000, 23 black points, and vehicle impoundment for 60 days. Similar penalties apply to drivers endangering the lives of others. Additional violations, such as blocking traffic, jumping red signals, sudden swerving, and driving without a number plate, are also subject to penalties.
It’s important to note that while federal traffic laws apply, each emirate may have its own specific regulations and penalties.
