In a notable trade during Pakistan Super League 2024 (PSL 9), Iftikhar Ahmed from Quetta Gladiators made a switch to the 2021 champions, Multan Sultans, in exchange for Rilee Rossouw, as confirmed by the franchise through a social media announcement.
Iftikhar, who has previously represented Peshawar Zalmi, Karachi Kings, and Islamabad United, is set to don the Sultan’s jersey this season, making him the first player to play for five different teams in the league.
Expressing his enthusiasm about joining Multan Sultans, Iftikhar stated, “I am delighted to become a Sultan. It is an honor for me to represent the people of Multan as their passion for this game is second to none. Multan Sultans have evolved into a strong team, and their record in the last three seasons speaks for itself. Now, it is my ambition to help them secure the prestigious HBL PSL trophy. Sultans, #IftiMania aapki team mein araha hay.”
The captain of Multan Sultans, Rizwan, also welcomed Iftikhar’s arrival, acknowledging his outstanding all-round skills and significant contributions with the bat in recent years. “I am very excited to welcome Iftikhar Ahmed. He brings outstanding all-round skills, which we need to be a champion team,” said Rizwan on Iftikhar’s inclusion in the team.

The trade not only considers Iftikhar’s on-field prowess but also highlights his role as a positive and team-oriented player, contributing to the uplifting atmosphere within the dressing room. The aim is to assemble a group of players whose skills align with the team’s positive, bold, and aggressive style of cricket.
With this historic trade, Multan Sultans also secure the first trade in the PSL 9 Draft, scheduled to take place on December 13 in Lahore. On the other side of the trade, Russouw rejoins Quetta, the team he secured the PSL trophy with in 2019, and where he was the second top-scorer, contributing 39 runs in the final against Peshawar Zalmi.
Earlier in the PSL, one of the significant trades occurred as Karachi Kings’ skipper, Imad Wasim, moved to Islamabad United, while Hasan Ali joined the 2020 PSL winners.
