Mawra Hocane deserves praise for her portrayal of Zimal. After watching this series, I eagerly anticipate more from Mawra and Ameer Gillani.

17. Pinjra

“Pinjra,” one of the promising dramas of 2023, which takes place as Top 17 on the list of Top Pakistani Dramas in 2024, began with high expectations. Although Asma Nabeel’s last script was left incomplete, the initial episodes were fast-paced, presenting a non-conventional storyline. It shed light on how parental neglect and societal pressures affect children’s self-esteem, leading to catastrophic consequences. Unfortunately, like other notable dramas of the year, it lost its appeal due to unnecessary elongation and veered into a dark and depressing narrative. A concise approach could have served its purpose more effectively.

18. Kuch Ankahi

Writer: Mohammad Ahmed | Director: Nadeem Baig | Channel: ARY Digital

The show centers on the societal strides of women, spotlighting individuals from diverse backgrounds, such as a financially struggling maid, a middle-class real estate agent, and a prosperous businesswoman. At its core, the narrative revolves around the dreams and journeys of three sisters, tackling themes like posthumous wealth distribution and the roles of men. Serving as a tribute to the late, renowned Pakistani television writer Haseena Moin, the series weaves together multiple themes while honoring the legacy of Moin’s impactful storytelling.

“Kuch Ankahi,” aiming to provide quality entertainment, defied stereotypes from the start. Despite its good intentions, the drama attempted to address too many issues in a single narrative, resulting in a lack of precision. Repetition and a slow pace diminished the entertainment factor, failing to captivate sustained interest despite sincere efforts.

19. Jhok Sarkar

The storyline follows the challenges faced by a dedicated police officer as they confront the pervasive social issues, tribal dominance, and rampant lawlessness in a town situated near Multan and Shorkot—specifically, Jhok Sial in the desert region. This series serves as a tribute to the often-overlooked heroes within the police service, highlighting their struggles and efforts to combat deeply ingrained societal problems.

“Jhok Sarkar” attracted viewers mainly due to writer Hashim Nadeem and actors Farhan Saeed and Asif Raza Mir. Despite having the right ingredients, personal preferences led to a lack of connection. The unusual storyline could have made it remarkable if not for the loss of its initial spark.

Despite potential as a remarkable mini-series, the lack of substance and prolonged airing diminish its impact.

22. Tumhare Husn Ke Naam
