As part of the ongoing efforts to enhance road safety, the Punjab government has decided to ban Qingqi (motorcycle) rickshaws across the province, including Lahore.
In a press release issued on Saturday, Caretaker Punjab Minister for Transport, Ibrahim Hassan Murad, announced the initiation of a crackdown against those involved in the unauthorized production of motorcycle and loader rickshaws.
Furthermore, the Punjab government has issued a 30-day warning to Qingqi rickshaw owners otherwise strict action will be taken against them.
Minister Murad emphasized that during the first phase, rickshaws lacking approval from the transport department would face a ban in major cities as part of the government’s efforts to improve enhance road safety. Subsequently, in the second phase, a comprehensive operation would be launched in smaller cities and rural areas.
Additionally, he clarified that future local manufacturing of Qingqi rickshaws would be prohibited, with plans to regulate rickshaw manufacturing companies and implement the registration of Qingqi rickshaws.
