As the UAE anticipates the arrival of Ramadan 2024, just 90 days away, preparations for the holiest month in Islam are underway. During Ramadan, Muslims engage in fasting from dawn to dusk, ushering in a period of spiritual reflection and slowed-down activities across the country, with reduced office hours.
When Will Ramadan 2024 Start in UAE?
Scheduled to commence on March 12, 2024, according to the Hijri calendar on the Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) website, Ramadan will coincide with the beginning of the spring season in the UAE. The weather is expected to be cool, aligning with the conducive atmosphere for reflection and fasting.
This year, fasting hours during Ramadan will be shorter compared to the previous year. On the first day, Muslims will abstain from food and drink for 13 hours and 16 minutes, with the fasting duration gradually increasing to nearly 14 hours by the end of the month. In contrast, the fasting hours in 2023 ranged between 13 hours and 33 minutes to 14 hours and 16 minutes.
According to the IACAD calendar, Ramadan is projected to span 29 days, with the final fasting day falling on Tuesday, April 9. Following Ramadan, the Islamic festival Eid Al Fitr is anticipated to begin, providing residents with an extended break. The government has declared a public holiday from Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3, corresponding to Tuesday, April 9, to Friday, April 12, with the inclusion of the Saturday-Sunday weekend, resulting in a six-day break for residents to celebrate Eid Al Fitr.
As the countdown to Ramadan continues, Muslims in the UAE prepare for a period of spiritual devotion, fasting, and communal celebrations during this sacred month.
