The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications is nearing the completion of their plan to provide mobile phone installment plans to citizens, as per ProPakistani.
ProPakistani reports that the policy has reached its final stage and has been submitted to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for a comprehensive review.
Under the proposed policy, individuals failing to meet their installment obligations may have their mobile phones blocked. Importantly, the PTA will spearhead the implementation of this measure, a departure from relying solely on mobile companies for enforcement. The blocking process will be executed through the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) of the PTA.
In a bid to enhance technology accessibility, the policy emphasizes its commitment to supporting low-income individuals by offering them the opportunity to acquire mobile phones through interest-free installment plans.
The subsequent step involves presenting the policy to the federal cabinet for approval. Upon approval, the Ministry will issue a policy directive, representing a significant stride in ensuring equitable access to technology while maintaining accountability through the innovative use of the DIRBS system.
