Abu Dhabi’s transport authority announced the standardization of fare structures for all public buses. The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) disclosed that the new basic bus fare, applicable to both city and suburban routes, is set at Dh2, with an additional 5 fils charged per kilometer. The overall cost is capped at Dh5 per journey.
A notable change introduced by the ITC is the elimination of the need for passengers to pay the Dh2 base fare multiple times when taking more than one bus to reach their final destination, whether traveling from the city to the suburbs or vice versa.
Paid through the ‘Hafalat’ smart card at the trip’s conclusion, the fare is calculated from the passenger’s initial boarding point to their last dropoff.
However, the option for a ‘free change of buses’ is subject to three conditions:
- The passenger must change buses within a reasonable period.
- The number of changes must not exceed two times, limiting the trip to a maximum of three buses.
- Changes must not deviate from the original direction of the itinerary.
Passengers are required to swipe their cards when boarding and before disembarking to determine the trip’s cost. Failure to swipe the card at the trip’s end will result in the maximum fee being charged. Stay informed with the latest updates by following KT on WhatsApp Channels.
