The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has secured a spot in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Grade-I Cricket, marking its debut in the prestigious President Trophy (First Class) and President Cup (One Day) tournaments, among the top eight domestic teams. Previously playing Grade II cricket, the HEC team’s promotion to Grade I is attributed to its performance in the Grade II tournament (Patron’s Trophy) 2018-19, where it secured the 2nd position, actively promoting cricket within universities.
HEC Chairman, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, praised the team’s remarkable achievement, emphasizing their commitment to fostering university sports. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to enhance training and development for student players, noting HEC’s contribution to national and international male and female cricketers. Cricket has been included in the Talent Hunt Youth Sports League under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, with trials conducted in Lahore and Karachi to select a 20-player team for the Grade I cricket tournament.
Looking ahead, HEC plans to initiate nationwide Cricket Talent Hunt trials in 25 locations for individuals aged 15-25 years. This initiative underscores HEC’s dedication to scouting and nurturing cricket talent on a broader scale. The inclusion of HEC in Grade-I Cricket reflects not only its past accomplishments but also its commitment to furthering the development of cricket at the university level.
