Google has officially launched the Pixel Repair Mode for Pixel smartphones, following a successful beta testing phase. The feature, aimed at improving user data privacy during repairs, is now available on Pixel devices running Android 14, requiring a minimum of 2GB of available storage for activation. Users can activate Repair Mode by navigating to Settings > System > Repair Mode.
Once activated, Repair Mode establishes a secure environment on the device, protecting sensitive data such as messages and photos. This allows technicians to conduct tests on the phone’s features without accessing private information. Additionally, Google has introduced a diagnostic app accessible from the Phone dialer, enabling users to identify potential issues before sending their phones for repair. To use the diagnostic tool on Pixel phones, users can enter ##7287## on the Phone dialer’s keypad.
Google is committed to simplifying the repair process, irrespective of warranty status. The company has partnered with uBreakiFix to offer quick repairs at over 700 locations across the United States, with most repairs completed within 2-4 hours. Google claims that over 80% of Pixel device owners are now within a 10-20 mile radius of an authorized repair center, ensuring convenient access for users.
