As New Year’s Eve approaches, partygoers in Dubai should be prepared for a slight increase in taxi fares. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced an adjustment in the flag fall (minimum fare), raising it from the usual Dh12 to Dh20 at specific locations across the city.
This change applies to both regular metered taxis and the Hala Taxi service and is specifically implemented at key event locations, including exhibitions and international conventions such as the World Trade Centre, Expo City, and the Global Village. The elevated flag fall rate of Dh20 will be in effect not only during major events but also on other significant event days.
Moreover, during the night of New Year’s Eve, from 6 pm on Sunday, December 31, 2023, to 6 am on the following day, Monday, January 1, 2024, dynamic fares for Hala Taxi services will be doubled at selected locations hosting the New Year’s Eve fireworks display. The standard taxi service will also have a Dh20 flag fall at these locations during the mentioned time frame.
These fare adjustments are aligned with the New Year’s Eve road closure plans and are expected to be in effect in and around locations where fireworks displays are scheduled. The RTA aims to enhance and optimize both regular taxi services and the e-hail ride of Hala Taxi, especially during major events like New Year’s Eve, where the demand for taxi services significantly rises among residents, visitors, and tourists flocking to Dubai from around the globe, according to the RTA statement. It’s worth noting that the flag fall fare is a fixed amount charged at the beginning of a taxi journey, forming part of the total journey cost.
