The Punjab Government has provided a major relief in the driving license fee until January 9, 2024 by postponing the fee hike that was scheduled for January 1, 2024.
Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, announced that a planned hike for driving license fee has been postponed until January 9, 2024.
It means that citizens can get their driver’s licenses at the current fee.
However, it bears mentioning that Punjab Government has announced a massive hike in driving license fee for cars and motorcycles.
For learner licenses in motorcar/motorcycle categories, the fee will see a substantial increase from Rs. 60 per five years to Rs. 1000 per year, marking a Rs. 940 rise.
In addition, regular motorcycle driving license fees will shift from Rs. 550 every five years to Rs. 500 annually. Similarly, the license fee for car/jeep categories will experience a notable hike from Rs. 950 every five years to Rs. 1,800 yearly.
On the other hand, the heavy transport license fee will undergo a substantial increase from Rs. 400 every five years to Rs. 2,000 per year. Despite the increase across all driving license categories, the Punjab Government has chosen to eliminate the Rs. 20 charges for disabled individuals.
Furthermore, there are revisions in the public service vehicle license fee, which will be raised from Rs. 450 to Rs. 1,500 per year. Additionally, fees for other categories have been adjusted from Rs. 100 to Rs. 1,000.
These changes were initially scheduled to take place from January 1, 2024. However, the Government of Punjab has decided to extend the date until January 9, 2024.
