Mr. Sartaj Aziz has passed away at the age of 94, PML-N’s Ahsan Iqbal shared the tragic news on social media.
“He was a veteran of Pakistan movement & great asset for the nation. He will be missed very much. His services for the nation will always be remembered.” he stated in the post.
“I had honor of working with him very closely and will never forget his affection and guidance. May Allah Bless his soul and Grant patience to the family Ameen!” he added.
Sartaj Aziz was born on February 7, 1929 in Mardan and later moved to Lahore for higher studies. He enrolled at the Islamia College of Lahore and later went to study at the Punjab University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in economics.
He joined the civil service in 1950 and later moved the United States and earned a master’s degree in development economics from Harvard University. He later retuned to Pakistan where he went to work for the government.
Sartaj Aziz has held several positions in the government throughout his career and most recently served as the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs from 7 June 2013 to 28 July 2017.
