Governor Sindh, Kamran Tessori, has announced that street crime victims in Karachi will get free mobile phones and bikes.
Kamran Tessori stated that street crime victims in Karachi need to bring their original Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) and First Information Report (FIR) to the Governor House to get free mobile phones and bikes.
According to a report, there were 90,000 incidents of street crime in 2023, which was an a huge increase from 80,000 the previous year. Furthermore, there were a total of 134 murders as a result of these street crimes and several hundred injuries over resisting robberies.
Moreover, at least 411 civilians were killed in various incidents across city.
Additionally, there were more than 59,305 motorcycles and 2,336 cars that were stolen and snatched, while over 28,000 mobile phones were snatched form citizens.
However, the street crime victims in Karachi will now be able to get get free mobile phones and bikes from the Governor House. However, Kamran Tessori did not mention details like value that will be reimbursed to individuals for the stolen items.
He also announced health insurance cards are now being issued to individuals, who can avail medical treatment of up to Rs. 500,000 for themselves and their families.
Tessori added that preparations were underway to provide free IT courses to the citizens and the initiative will be launched soon.
