Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, has recently stated that the company is currently working on integrating generative AI features into its products, and is planning to reveal these advances some time this year. Cook remarked that Apple invested in technologies that would define the future on its quarterly earnings call, in particular, artificial intelligence. This goes in line with reports that the coming iOS 18 update could be the biggest in the history of the operating system.
As Apple’s Siri is not as capable as the features from major players such as Google and Samsung who already have AI integrated into its products, it is clear that Apple is now joining the AI landscape and this is confirmed by Cook himself. According to rumors, Apple could debut an advanced Siri, perhaps called “ Siri 2.0,” which would be powered by generative AI.
Furthermore, we can expect automatic integration of AI in Apple Music for better playlist recommendations and in Messages for more intelligent replies. With Apple focusing on AI interoperability and it is expected that it will create an ecosystem that allows fluid AI integration on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
Notably, Cook did not mention the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), but the use of a “later this year” timeframe implies that Apple can announce the smartphones at its annual developer conference that is held in the month of June. Unless incorporated at the outset, these AI components could be supplemented with subsequent software upgrades.
