Aijaz Khan Swati, the candidate backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who secured victory in PS-88 Malir during the General Elections 2024, has announced his decision to join the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), as reported by ARY News.
In a video statement, Aijaz Khan Swati expressed his unconditional decision to join the PPP, expressing optimism that the party led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would earnestly work towards the improvement and welfare of his constituents.
“My decision to join the PPP is driven by the welfare of my constituents,” he emphasized. Aijaz Khan Swati, supported by PTI, clinched victory in PS-88 with 17,580 votes, followed by PPP’s Muzammil Shah with 12,762 votes.
It’s noteworthy that Aijaz Khan Swati is the second elected member supported by PTI to formally disassociate from the party, following Wasim Qadir, the MNA-elect from NA-121 Lahore, who has already joined the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).
With the inclusion of the PTI-backed independent candidate, the PPP’s tally of general seats in the Sindh Assembly would increase to 86. The PPP secured 84 general seats in the General Elections held on February 8, while another independent candidate from PS-3 Jacobabad, Mumtaz Hussain Jakhrani, has also announced his intention to join the PPP.
On February 11, another independent candidate backed by PTI expressed his confidence and announced his decision to join the PML-N.
Waseem Qadir, the newly elected Member of the National Assembly from NA-121 Lahore-V, held discussions with PML-N’s senior vice president, Maryam Nawaz, in Lahore, expressing his full trust and confidence in the leadership of PML-N’s supremo, Nawaz Sharif. During the meeting, they deliberated on his alignment with the party and the shared vision for the constituency.
