The government decided on Thursday to help reduce the financial strain on people during the holy month of Ramazan by approving a Ramazan Relief Package at utility stores across the country.
This decision follows the recent approval by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of a relief package for utility stores. It marks a significant effort to make essential goods more affordable for the public during times of high inflation.
The relief program, which costs more than Rs7.49 billion, will start on March 4th, coinciding with the beginning of Ramazan. Through this plan, a targeted subsidy system will be used to lower prices on 19 basic items, including necessities like flour, sugar, cooking oil, rice, and beans.
Additionally, shoppers can expect discounts on other important items such as dates, chickpea flour, milk, drinks, and spices, ensuring a wide range of affordable products. Importantly, those enrolled in the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) will also receive discounts as part of the Ramazan Relief Package, extending help to vulnerable groups in society.
