The Government of Sindh has announced a public holiday for all schools and colleges on February 26, 2024 (Friday), on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat.
A notification issued by the Education Department stated, “In pursuance of the decisions taken in the meeting of the Steering Committee on Education held on 13th November, 2023, all Public and Private Educational Institutions under the Administrative Control of College Education Department shall remain closed on Monday, 26th February 2024, on account of Shab-e-Baraat (15th Sha’ban) holiday.”
Meanwhile, a similar notification has been issued by the School Education and Literacy Department (SELD) as well.
Shab-e-Barat, occurring between the 14th (March 7) and 15th of Shaban, is considered as the holiest night by Muslims, dedicated to seeking forgiveness from Allah. Across the country, special religious gatherings will take place, and individuals will visit graveyards to offer prayers at the resting places of their loved ones. Muslims globally observe the 15th night of Shaban with devoutness, congregating in mosques to perform nawafil and engage in special prayers.
