Starting March 1, Ras Al Khaimah Police will crack down on reckless driving by enforcing strict penalties and fines, including vehicle impoundment. For instance, vehicles engaged in road racing will be impounded for three months with a Dh10,000 release fee, while those endangering lives in tourist areas face a four-month impoundment and the same release fee. These measures follow the RAK Executive Council’s decision to enhance penalties for traffic offenses.
Additional violations and penalties include participating in unauthorized processions, racing without a license plate, modifying vehicles, and driving in ways damaging to the environment or tourist areas. Impoundment durations range from 30 to 120 days, with release fees ranging from Dh3,000 to Dh20,000. Recurrent violations within a year incur escalated penalties.
The regulations also address abandoned vehicles and unauthorized vehicle displays for sale. Maj Gen Al Nuaimi, RAK Police Chief, emphasized that police are prepared to implement the regulations and have been raising awareness among motorists through social media platforms.
