Qualcomm has announced that it will introduce its next top-tier processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, at the Snapdragon Summit this October. Don McGuire, Qualcomm’s Chief Marketing Officer, shared this news during the Mobile World Congress through a post on X/Twitter. He mentioned that the new chip will have Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU and hinted at improved NPU performance.
Although there aren’t many details about the chip yet, rumors about its features have begun circulating. A leak revealed that an early version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 ran a game smoothly for 45 minutes at high quality. It maintained a steady frame rate, suggesting strong performance.
Meanwhile, there is another report that suggests that the chip’s Adreno 830 GPU scored higher than Apple’s M2 chip in a performance test. This is noteworthy because the M2 chip is designed for larger devices like Macs.
Before the official launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, Qualcomm may release another chip in the Snapdragon 8 Gen series, codenamed SM8635. This interim chip is rumored to have a powerful Cortex-X4 core and an Adreno 735 GPU. It’s expected to offer performance between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Gen 3, possibly named Snapdragon 8s Gen 2 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Lite.
