The United States on Tuesday condemned the closure of X in Pakistan and expressed strong support for freedom of expression in the country.
“The United States, like many nations globally, advocates for the protection of this fundamental right within Pakistan,” stated Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, during a press briefing.
Miller highlighted concerns over government-imposed restrictions on various internet platforms, including social media, and urged Pakistani authorities to respect the basic freedoms of the Pakistani people and uphold the principles of free speech.
While acknowledging the ongoing democratic process in Pakistan, Miller emphasized the importance of transparent and fair elections. He called for a thorough investigation into any irregularities and expressed optimism about collaborating with the newly formed government.
