Kuwait has announced a three-month amnesty for expatriates who broke residency law. The amnesty period starts from March 17 to June 17, 2024. Sheikh Fahad Yousef Al Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister, shared the news during Ramadan.
The move aims to help over 120,000 expatriates. It lets violators fix their status or leave without fines. Kuwait wants to show its humanitarian side by giving people a chance to follow the rules without punishment.
During this time, those who broke the rules can pay fines, update their residency status, or leave without penalty. They can come back later under new rules. People facing problems should contact the Directorate General of Residency Affairs.
After the amnesty, strict actions will be taken against rule-breakers, like deportation and banning.
Officials are preparing in all six areas to help with residency changes. The highest fine is KD 600 for those fixing their status.
