The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has refuted claims of forecasting the date for Eid-ul-Fitr in the country. Reports circulating on social media and local news channels suggested that PMD had predicted Eid-ul-Fitr to occur on April 11, but the department has denied making any such forecast.
However, a Met Office representative informed a local news outlet that their department had not made any predictions regarding the date of Eid-ul-Fitr. They emphasized that determining the date falls under the responsibility of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, not the Met Office. The representative clarified that the primary role of the Met Office is to provide weather forecasts.
According to the official list of public holidays released by the Cabinet Division last December, Pakistanis are scheduled to have five Eid-ul-Fitr holidays from April 10 to April 14 (Wednesday to Sunday), taking advantage of the weekend. However, it’s important to note that the final date for Eid-ul-Fitr will be confirmed upon the sighting of the Shawwal moon, which is anticipated on April 10 (Wednesday).
