The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a weather update warning of heavy rains and thunderstorms starting from Sunday. According to the weather department, the cloud cover is expected to increase with the possibility of light to moderate rainfall, alongside intervals of lightning and thunder, resulting in cooler temperatures.
The NCM anticipates a shift in weather patterns in the UAE due to a deepening upper-air trough, leading to scattered showers and strong winds beginning Sunday. Although rainfall is forecasted to decrease by Tuesday evening, potential hazards remain.
Furthermore, the weather update states that strong winds, ranging from moderate to fresh and possibly reaching strong gusts, may cause blowing dust and sand storms, reducing road visibility. Therefore, the department warns motorists to exercise caution.
At sea, the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea are expected to experience light to moderate waves, becoming rough to very rough during heavy cloud cover. Coastal areas may see lighter rainfall (10mm to 40mm), while internal areas could experience heavier precipitation (50mm to 80mm).
Specifically, Abu Dhabi may receive 10mm to 20mm of rainfall in coastal areas and 25mm to 50mm in internal regions. Dubai and Sharjah are also forecasted to have significant rainfall, with coastal areas expecting 15mm to 50mm of total accumulated precipitation.
