In a tragic incident, an 8-year-old girl named Vaniya was subjected to physical abuse and set on fire by her stepfather named Tariq in Karachi’s Landhi area last month. The incident has just come to light, and an FIR has been lodged against the individual.
According to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Hasan Sardar, Tariq allegedly set Vaniya on fire on February 16 after subjecting her to physical abuse. Vaniya’s mother, Rabia, kept the incident hidden due to fear of her husband, Tariq, and sought medical help for her daughter secretly.
Rabia explained that she had married Tariq two years ago after divorcing her ex-husband, Amjad, with whom she has an eight-year-old daughter. On the day of the incident, Vaniya returned from her tuition classes and was reportedly abused by Tariq. Rabia tried to protect her daughter, but Tariq, in a fit of anger, set Vaniya on fire with petrol. Although Vaniya survived, she sustained severe injuries and appears to be in critical condition.
A case has been registered against Tariq, who is currently evading arrest. The incident has caused massive outrage amongst the people of Karachi, who are demanding justice for Vaniya. This incident emphasizes the importance of protecting vulnerable members of society and holding perpetrators accountable. Authorities and communities must unite to prevent such acts of violence in the future and ensure support for victims like Vaniya.
