Dubai Metro stations have introduced special phone booths providing free international calls as part of the ‘We Bring You Closer’ campaign by Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Commuters can now make free international calls during Ramadan to connect with loved ones.
According to the details, a total of four telephone booths have been installed at Al Ghubaiba, Union, and Jebel Ali Metro stations, in collaboration with Keolis, the operator of Dubai Metro and Tram, which will provide free international calls during Ramadan.
The initiative holds significance for the millions of expats in Dubai who are away from their families during Ramadan. The phone booths provide them with an opportunity to connect with their loved ones during this holy month.
Under the theme “Journey of Good,” RTA has introduced several humanitarian and community-driven initiatives throughout Ramadan. These initiatives aim to enhance community engagement and teamwork, involving volunteers from RTA and Keolis.
One such initiative is Modes of Good, which expands on RTA’s annual Meals on Wheels effort. The charity initiative mobilizes RTA staff and volunteers to prepare and distribute 8,000 meals during Ramadan using various modes of transport, including buses and abras. Furthermore, special visits are also made to worker accommodations to distribute meals, promoting community solidarity.
Additionally, RTA, in collaboration with charitable societies, has launched the Ramadan Tent Project. Partnering with the Beit Al Khair Society, this initiative aims to provide 2000 Iftar meals to fasting individuals by setting up a dedicated tent.
Internal initiatives for RTA employees include workshops on healthy fasting habits and the importance of maintaining a balanced diet before Ramadan. Moreover, RTA has organized Ramadan Bazaar and Iftar Gathering events to bring staff members and leaders together over iftar meals, fostering social communication and promoting a culture of tolerance within the workplace.
