Apple unveiled its A17 Pro processor for the iPhone 15 Pro series, which surpassed Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Now, attention has turned to the Apple A18 Pro chipset in development for the iPhone 16 Pro models. Recent leaks from a Weibo user and shared by NoteBookCheck shed light on potential performance gains compared to the A17 Pro.
The leaked Geekbench scores indicate significant improvements with the A18 Pro. In one post, the alleged A18 Pro achieves 3,570 and 9,310 points in Geekbench 6’s single-core and multi-core tests, marking a 22% and 28% increase over the A17 Pro. Similarly, in Geekbench 5, it scores 2,571 and 7,359 points, indicating a 20% and 38% boost in single-core and multi-core performance, respectively.
However, another post reveals scores closer to the A17 Pro. The A18 Pro records 2,822 and 8,571 points in Geekbench 6, and 2,517 and 7,359 points in Geekbench 5 for single-core and multi-core tests, respectively.
The Weibo user emphasizes that final performance may differ as chip manufacturers like Apple optimize performance and power efficiency. The A18 Pro is expected to utilize TSMC’s 3nm process and may feature two high-powered CPU cores along with six low-powered cores.
These leaks offer tantalizing insights into the potential capabilities of Apple’s upcoming chipset. However, until official confirmation from Apple, these details should be taken with caution. As the smartphone industry continues to push boundaries, the performance of Apple’s A18 Pro chipset could redefine expectations for mobile devices.
