The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted rain and thunderstorms across the country from today. According to the weather update, the Met Office informed us that a westerly wave entered western parts of the country on March 27 and is likely to grip upper and central parts on March 28 and persist till March 31.
Under the influence of this weather system, rain and thunderstorms are expected across the country.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Rain-windstorm/thunderstorm (snowfall over the mountains) is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Malakand, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan and Kurram, with occasional gaps from March 27th to March 31st. Isolated heavy fall and hailstorms are also expected on March 29th & 30th.
Gilgit-Baltistan/Kashmir
Rain-wind/thunderstorm (snowfall over the hills) is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) with occasional gaps from 27th March to 01st April. Isolated heavy fall and hailstorm is also expected on 29th & 30th March.
Punjab/Islamabad
With sporadic gaps from the 27th (evening/night) to the 31st of March, rain, wind, and thunderstorms are predicted in the following locations: Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali. Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Khanpur, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar are also expected to experience rain, wind, or thunderstorm, with sporadic breaks from March 28 to 30. During the forecast period, an isolated windstorm or hailstorm is also anticipated in the province.
Balochistan
In Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Sibbi, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Kalat, and Khuzdar, rain, wind, and thunderstorm are predicted for March 27 and 29. In the province’s southern regions, dry weather and winds that raise dust are predicted.
Sindh
Rain/thunderstorms are expected in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, and Dadu on March 28th & 29th. Dry weather and dust-raising winds are expected in the southern parts of the province.
Possible Impacts and advises:
- Moderate to heavy rainfall may trigger landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan and may affect the vulnerable points during 29th / 30th March.
- Windstorm/hailstorm and lightning may damage standing crops, loose structures like electric poles, vehicles and solar panels etc.
- Tourists and farmers are advised to remain cautious during the wet period.
- Temperatures are likely to drop during the wet spell.
